Remember Cracked magazine? Yeah, that Cracked. What you might not have known is that the erstwhile Mad ripoff went through some editorial changes last year to become glossier, edgier and more adult — I guess more like a “lad” ripoff this time.
But as far as revisions go, it was a pretty good one. The first few issues of the new Cracked were actually quite chucklelicious. However, after just three issues of their calculatedly bold experiment, New Cracked is as dead as New Coke. Sylvester P. Smythe’s final assignment: dumping the remains in the recycling bins.
‘Tis a sad day indeed for the comedy-writing industry. And by “industry,” I mean a bunch of other sad, bloated, barely employed bloggers desperately trying to get their pseudonym in print. But at least the website is still alive and kicking, and it’s got some good stuff. Check it out.
